A meaty issue…

Four of our not so little chooks have gone to the big farmyard in the sky today. One of them was plucked and Jon is currently cooking me a monstrous roast chicken dinner. This chook weighed in at 5 1/2 lbs which is wonderful!

I took to other 3 over to the parents house had a little father daughter time as he taught me how to butcher them into joints. The following is purely for my own memory…

Bend & pop the hip joint & cut out.
Pop wings and cut out.
Slide knife down either side of breastbone and cut breast out
Chop carcass into 6 pieces & bag & freeze for broth.

I dont exactly enjoy this part of keeping livestock but I do enjoy the site of a freezer full of my own little critters and I know that just this morning they were scrabbling round catching bugs.

Oh yeah, it was good…
